Island: Flores

Duration: 7 days

Day 1 : Ende - Moni
Breakfast. The domestic flight from Bali to Flores takes us to the city of Ende. In the past a real pirate refuge and also place of exile for the late president Soekarno. Lunch. We drive through luch vegetation along a winding road to the small village of Moni. Diner and overnight in the cozy Ecolodge Kelimutu.

Day 2 : Moni - Ende - Bajawa
After a very early wake-up call and a cup of coffe or thee we drive in the dark up the Kelimutu volcano. A short climb later we are standing at the viewpoint to see the beautiful sunrise over the multi colored lakes beneath us. The three lakes of Kelimutu change color all the time depending on the minerals in the water. From redbrown to jade green, this place is also a very important place of for the animistic local people. Breakfast back in the hotel. After we take the road west to Bajawa. Lunch in Ende. Along the way we stop several times and in the late afternoon we arrive in Bajawa where traditional the way of living of the Ngada etnic people is still very strong. Dinner in Bajawa. Overnight.

Day 3 : Bajawa
Breakfast. A short drive outside of Bajawa, at the foot of the Inerie volcano we visit a few traditional villages of the Ngada people. They are well known for their inticrate textile called Ikat and are still 100% farmers. Lunch in Bajawa. In the afternoon we can relax our body in the natural hot springs found here in many places. Evidence of the omny present volcanic activity. Overnight.

Day 4 : Bajawa - Ruteng
After breakfast we leave Bajawa en drive furhter west to the small city of Ruteng. Several stops on the way. The area around Ruteng is very fertile and has a pleasant climate because it is situated 1.200 meter above sealevel. This is the coffe producing area of the island of Flores. Next to the many coffe plantations we also find beautiful rice terrace that invite us for a soft trekking. Diner in a local reataurant in Ruteng. Overnight in hotel Maryos.

Day 5 : Ruteng - Labuan Bajo
The last leap of our trip west takes us along the famous spiderweb rice paddy’s and through more coffee plantations. Lunch on the way. In the afternoon we arrive in the fishers village of Labuan Bajo where we probably will still be able to enjoy the sunset before checking in the hotel. Diner and Overnight.

Day 6 : Rinca & Komodo
Breakfast. We take the local transport called ‘bemo’ to the fishing harbor where our speedboat is waiting for us. An exciting trip of 1 and a half hour through one of the most beautiful seascapes in the world brings us to the Komodo National Park and the small island of Rinca. Together with the two islands of Komodo and Padar, as well as numerous smaller islands creating a total surface area (marine and land) of 1817km this is the only place where the Komodo dragon lives in the wild. Here we meet our ranger who will take us on a trek through the island in search of the “ora”, the local name for the dragons. If quiet we can encounter wild pigs, wild deer, wild buffalo, monkeys and of course the king of this island, the ferocious Komodo dragon. Half hour speeding later we arrive at the island of Komodo. Picnic lunch at the cafeteria of the rangers. Here also we do a footsafari to look for the ‘ora’ as the local people call them. Predators by nature they hunt for the wild life on the island such as wild pig, deer or buffalo. An encounter with these ‘dinosaurs’ is not easy to forget. In the afternoon our speedboat brings us back to the harbor. Overnight.

Day 7 : Labuan Bajo - Bali
Breakfast. In the late morning we are taken back to the airport of Labuan Bajo for our domestic flight to Bali. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. Overnight.
